Sundays at Choctaw Christian Church
What to Expect on a Sunday Morning
***
***
Before Arrival:
Where does church meet? 668 J Williams Rd., Louisville, MS 39339
When does church start? Service begins at 10:30AM and ends at around 11:45AM.
What should I wear? Most of us wear jeans and a T-Shirt, although others dress with button-ups and pointy shoes. It's really between you and God, and how you're personally convicted to dress for worshiping with fellow believers on a Sunday Morning. Just make sure what you wear is modest and appropriate.
What do I do when I get there? Park anywhere, whether its on grass or gravel, it's no problem. Walk in any entrance into the Sanctuary building--its a small building; you won't get lost--and have a seat. You can have your kids sit with you, or you can let your kids run around outside and play before service begins--we'll call them in when it is time to get started.
What is worship service like?
Singing: At Choctaw Christian Church, we sing hymns a capella in English and in Choctaw. Sometimes we sing contemporary music along with a pre-recorded soundtrack. (We're always looking for a guitarist or pianist to help lead for worship if you're interested)
Prayer: After that, we take up prayer requests. If you have something you would like the pastor to pray for that day, and for the congregation to pray for during the week, you are welcome to raise your hand and give your request.
Message: Next we have a Sermon (in English). The pastor preaches out of the English Standard Version, but you are welcome to bring any translation you like (we're just letting you know he uses the ESV so you can follow along easier when he reads). He preaches "expository sermons," which means every message is derived from Scripture, not the other way around.
Sunday School: After the Sermon we have Sunday School--an adult class in the Sanctuary, a teens class in a classroom, and a kids class in the Fellowship Hall.
Children's Church: Every 2nd and 4th Sunday we have "Children's Church" instead of Sunday School, where kids ages 11 and under go to the Fellowship Hall to have a lesson during the Sermon; this is so the adults can focus on the message, and kids can receive biblical nourishment in a way that's more age-appropriate (but you are welcome to keep your own kids sitting next to you).
Offering: After Sunday School (or the Sermon on Children's Church Sundays), we like to worship God by taking up our tithes and offerings, during which time we also make announcements, and sing "Happy Birthday" to those with birthdays that week.
Dismissal: After taking up offerings and having closing prayer, we go around shaking hands and say, "bless you." (We're not really sure why we have this tradition to be honest... but it has stuck...) After dismissal, we usually will have a small fellowship meal provided by one of the church ladies. You are absolutely welcome to stick around after service and eat some free food! Afterward, we say goodbye, and head home for the week.
